Brain Gang

The Brain Gang is a survivor and caregiver support group for anyone with a history of stroke, brain tumor or traumatic brain injury.  We have referrals from physicians and word of mouth.  We annually coordinate with the BSW Neurology Department support group.

The group is both social and educational, with typically 3-4 education programs and 3-4 social programs annually.  Families and caregivers are encouraged to attend.

The group began in the 1980’s as an extension of the Scott & White Rehabilitation Unit with meetings on the Unit.  When BSW moved the Rehab Unit to Waco, the group members decided to continue on their own, combining the stroke and brain injury groups.  Kyla Sherrard and Jennifer Holle remained as sponsors to the group.

The group had met in several other churches (Grace Presbyterian and Belton First Methodist) before coming to St. Francis in 2018.  St. Francis provides the meeting space with supervision from a parishioner.  The rector intermittently provides support as well.
